Let me tell a tale of a man named Benjamin.
This weekend I decided to go on up to Snively Hot Springs in Oregon. I frequent this place whenever I need a little escape from the day to day. A long time ago I was there on a day where a family with a member in a wheelchair couldn't get down to the water. Unbeknownst to me or anyone, a quiet hero also witnessed this and decided to act.
Later that night, he started to cultivate the land. It was a fascinating sight. When I saw this, I asked why he was digging and reshaping the land around the spring. It was simple — he wanted to make it accessible to everyone, even people in wheelchairs.
Well, that was a few years ago and I have had the pleasure of slowly watching his vision take shape.
I've run into him a few times here and there. He usually works at night time, and this weekend was no exception. After the sun was down on Friday, I was talking with people I met at the springs, and I heard his unique river people call. I see him floating down the river on an old wrestling mat, carrying his custom land cultivation tool. We greet each other and hang out a bit on his "craft" and we talk about all the work he has done.
It looked great but it was too dark to get good pictures, so I got some the next morning. Something happened — all of the groups of people were paying attention to our conversation and they came up to Benjamin and started thanking him for making the spring pool as great as it was.
It inspired me to give him this shout out. Snively is looking great and Benjamin's vision is slowly forming.
