Oh no! They are taking over! Scary movies have greatly skewed the image of possession and what it means for the application of this information into our world. But is it real? I assure you it is.

Possession

1. The state of having, owning, or controlling something. 2. An item of property; something belonging to one.

For this article, to look at the so-called “supernatural” concept of possession — that would be the control of something, or the ownership of one’s soul. An entity controlling the mind, body, or instances in our life. Scary concept right? But is it? Most religious people, Christians in particular, freely give these aspects to their God. You have heard the term “Jesus take the wheel.” This is literally asking a higher entity to take control of a part of your life. So why do we focus on the negative aspects of the term? It seems to be the same processes for the entity — whether it is good or bad, the processes of possession would be the same for whatever or whoever is taking the wheel.

Why Is It Painted Negatively?

So why is the concept of possession painted negatively in media, but deeply sought after from religion? It is a way to polarize the mind into a system of order. It is bad to let a demon possess you, but it is good to let God or Christ drive your “vehicle.” It comes down to what control you allow the entity to take.

If you have established a good, true, honest relationship with the holy ghost, it never tries to impede on our free will and our ability to jump back into our “drivers seat.” But a corrupt connection can lead to an over-controlling spirit. There are other working systems in which Spirit can drive us as well — but it takes working with and training the push and pull between you and the Spirit.

It is bad to let a demon possess you, but it is good to let God or Christ drive your vehicle. It comes down to what control you allow the entity to take.

Religious people are scared of the term possession because of its modern painted connection to demonic uses. But as a mirror image, they use it and ask for it freely. The idea of being “filled with the holy spirit” is indeed a form of possession — a welcomed surrendering of the ego to something greater. That is not scary. That is the goal.

Finding the Narrow Path

I am writing this because very soon — within a decade — more people are going to be talking about this openly. The conversation around spirit, consciousness, and what it means to be “guided” is growing. The language is shifting. And the fear around these words is starting to thin.

If you are superstitious in any way, it is easy enough to keep the channel clean. Keep your relationship with Spirit honest. Keep your intentions clear. And understand that what you allow in — in thought, in habit, in relationship — shapes what drives you. That is possession in its most practical form. And it is very attainable.

So basically, the task at hand is to look at this honestly — without the Hollywood filter — and ask yourself what you are already allowing to take the wheel. Because something always is. The question is whether it is aligned with your highest self and the new world perspective.
